Building Companionship

When students learn in person, they are impacted by one another as much as the teacher. To this end, as well as focusing on the Islamic sciences, we seek to nurture a spiritually rich environment rooted in the Islamic principle of suhba. To this end we will develop:

  • Foundational Manners (Adab) through following basic classroom etiquette, including listening respectfully, taking turns, and embodying kindness and respect when addressing teachers and peers respectively..

  • Friendships based on kindness, honesty, and helpfulness, reflecting the Prophetic ﷺ teachings about good manners and character.

  • Personal development by encouraging sincere effort to improve character traits including, but not limited to truthfulness, patience, and humility.

  • Respect for Sacred Knowledge that treats Islamic studies with seriousness and reverence, especially when learning about jurisprudence (fiqh), prophetic biography (sirah), and Islamic belief (aqidah).

What existing students/parents are saying...

“I have been attending Dr Bano's Islamic Studies program for almost one year and have benefited tremendously. The class has helped me understand the existence of Allah and learn more about Islam. During an Islam 101 lecture in my community, one attendee asked the Muslim panelists about predestination vs. free will. Nobody was able to give a clear answer. I raised my hand and said, "God gives us free will. He knows what we are going to choose but He does not force us". This is because of the many discussions we had about Allah in Dr Bano's Aqeedah class. ”

“My 11-year old son has been attending Dr. Bano and her team's online Islamic Studies Class this last year. I am impressed by how they divided the curriculum into 3 short but powerful segments. They start with Fiqh, then delve into Aqidah (spending the entire first year talking about Allah سبحانه و تعالى only!) and end with Seerah - a live version of Dr. Bano's fantastic Stories from the Seerah Podcast. Each segment is 30 minutes, but my son has learned and retained so much from all three. Because we live on the West Coast, my son wakes up at 7 am on Sunday morning to attend this class with eagerness and excitement. There is no push or reminder needed from me- instead he has woken me up numerous times to help him set up the laptop. I wish we lived closer to attend in person. I cannot recommend this program enough for families concerned about their children’s identity and love of Allah swt as they grow up in the West”

“Bismillah al Rahmān ar Rahīm My son, now 13, and daughter, now 12, are coming up to the end of their second year of studying the three year program of Islamic studies. We have found this program to be invaluable. I cannot describe the richness of the text that they are being exposed to at this age, I have not found this type of Islamic education elsewhere, and I am truly indebted and grateful for this journey and opportunity. Both my son and daughter have gained a deeper sense of knowledge that I was not exposed to as a child, and I am very appreciative of this, they are studying from texts that all of us should be exposed to, but somehow have been lost on many of us in our time. On a personal level, for me as a Muslim parent, it has been very difficult for me to transfer this type of knowledge as I had not received it myself in the proper way, and I am learning it myself as an adult. This program has helped them understand their identity as Muslims and is also helping deepen their creedal foundation in the Deen, giving them a more confident point of departure for evaluating what is true and what is false and what we believe is possible and what is impossible. On a Fiqh level, their classes have helped solidify their rituals and practices, but have additionally expanded on helping them understand that we can practice what we know and do the things we do but with ihsān, and how intentions transform and impact actions. I am deeply grateful to have found a program of this caliber to hold my children’s hands through the journey of what it means to be a Muslim. Alhamdulilah.”
